Troubleshooting

When data seems wrong or outdated

How to tell if data is genuinely wrong vs. limited, and how to report discrepancies.

Understanding data freshness

Different data categories update at different frequencies:

  • Internet/broadband: official filings update periodically. A provider that started serving your area recently may not appear yet.
  • Permits: updated weekly from county sources. A permit filed this week should appear within 7 days.
  • Transit: updated with regional schedule releases, typically every few months.
  • Weather, road, and air quality: live and short-cache sources refresh more frequently.
  • Flood, environmental, medical, and school records: official data follows each publisher's release cycle and may lag real-world changes.
  • Points of interest: commercial and community place data updates continuously, but very new businesses may not appear yet.
  • Public datasets: rent, demographics, health, food-access, and healthcare records ingest on scheduled cycles and reflect the source vintage.
  • Demographics: official five-year estimates update periodically and are inherently lagged.

Is it wrong, or just limited?

Limited means our data source simply doesn't have full coverage for the area. This is expected and shown with a "Limited data" badge. It's not an error — it's an honest representation of what we know.

Wrong means data that's clearly incorrect: a fiber provider listed for an address that clearly doesn't have fiber, a school shown in the wrong district, a grocery store that closed years ago.

When to report

Report a data issue when:

  • A service is listed as available but definitely isn't (or vice versa)
  • A business or point of interest no longer exists
  • A permit record looks like a data artifact (nonsensical address or type)
  • A confidence score seems wildly off for a well-established area

How to report data issues

Use the support page contact form with the topic "Data error." Include the address, the specific card or data point, and what you believe is incorrect. Data reports are reviewed by our team weekly and help improve accuracy for everyone.
